Confessions of a Political Blogger
The list of things to post about these days is overwhelming: Obama and all his policies, administration picks, economic plans, my fear for his personal safety; the Gaza invasion and whether either side can claim higher moral ground (they can’t); the state of the US economy; the continuing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan (remember those?); and, of course, the myriad issues surrounding global climate change.
What’s my confession? Today, lately, I have nothing to say. I don’t have an argument anywhere in me right now. Times of widespread discontent and disruption have for centuries lead to lovely things like wars. Most people think war is obsolete, brutal, inhuman, unthinkable. So how is it that the few who think it’s a good idea seem always to be in charge?
Today I am not going to succumb to cynicism, even though my heart goes out to the children in Gaza and Israel, and to all our children. I’m going to do my best to believe the future will be peaceful, green, abundant, safe, rich in culture, art, beauty, and goodness. And love. Today I’m just going to pray.
